The Mental Health Clinic METØDA invites you to a series of PUBLIC LECTURES which will take up some issues important for men and women today, approached from a Lacanian perspective.

Is there life before death?

Religions and philosophies have long wrestled with the question of life after death. Psychoanalysis deals with a very different question: is there a life before death? This question is not so strange because much of our mental life is all about the lives we are not living, the lives we feel we want to live but are missing out on, or the lives we could be living but — for reasons we can’t quite grasp — are not. In this lecture we will take a look at the psychoanalytic idea that the life we really want to live is the stuff of our dreams, desires, longings and fantasies. What might we discover about ourselves, about who we think we are, once we start to consider that one of the most intimate aspects to our lives concerns the experiences, people and things that we are missing?
